Serbian Educational and Cultural centre St. Helen of Anjou (abbreviated as SECC St. Helen of Anjou) is a voluntary organisation in Malta, established in the spring of 2021, and registered according to the laws of voluntary organisations of Malta.
The organisation was founded with the blessings of the Maltese priest Father Risto Gorančić (Serbian Orthodox Church, Austro-Swiss Eparchy), and the idea to bridge the two cultures (Serbia and Malta) by promoting Serbian cultural heritage.
The leading idea of the organisation is, through the various projects such as reciting poetry, giving lectures, exhibitions, and concerts of artists of Serbian origins from all over the world, as well as other forms of cultural material, to not only enrich the daily lives of Serbian people in Malta but also provide better understanding between the two nations – leading to better integration of the Serbian population on the Maltese islands.

  • VIS Agape visited us, December, 06th, 2022.
  • Celebration day of St. Helen of Anjou, November 14th, 2022.

Visit VIS Agape, consisting of Aleksandar Gajsek and Željko Savić, in Malta from 2.-5. December 2022, organized by our SOKC and Leona Travel, marked the beginning of activities in the field of culture of the local Serbian community.

Participation in St. The liturgy and conversation with those present in the form of a very emotional performance by Aleksandar Gajšek will be remembered by many for a lifetime. Socializing with the students of the Serbian supplementary school “St. Jelena of Anjou” and talking about the Serbian greats, Tesla, Milanković and Pupin, took place in a wonderful atmosphere and very interesting reflections and drawings of our little astrologers.

The highlight of this great duo’s stay in Malta was certainly the music-poetry evening at the Brasa restaurant, where, by the light of candles and eternal notes and rhymes, no less than 70 souls sang in unison and poured out joy for four hours.

Thank God!

Thanks to Aleksandar and Željko for an unforgettable event, the kind “Malta does not remember”, said those who have lived here for more than 20 years. Thank you to our father Rista, Marina, Milica, Snezana, Nenad, Olga and Dima for their wholehearted help to make the “evening to remember” just that. Thank you to everyone who came to the concert and showed that such a special event can succeed even in the diaspora!

We look forward to a new meeting with joy, reading wonderful books that have been brought to us with love, all with the belief that “all we need is love” and that our table can only be Agape

Serbian Cultural and Educational Center “St. Helena of Anjou” in Malta celebrated its holy day (slava) for the second time in the beautiful atmosphere of our church in Birzebuja, on Sunday, November 13.
On that occasion, we organized the workshop, in cooperation with the teachers of the Serbian supplementary school, Maja Marinković and Jelena Jablanov Maksimović, the representative of the Council of Parents, Milica Mijović Dujković, as well as a mother, Jelena Mirkovic. The workshop was attended by a group of students from the south of Malta and Gzira, with whom we first talked about the famous queen, her life and her deed, and watched a short animated movie about the life of Queen Helen of Anjou. Then we did a great job and the results from there we are presenting here to you.
Among the works is a drawing by a student of Jovan Miljatović from Gozo, as well as several students of the Younger Group from Aura, who were prevented from attending the workshop, but sent their works.

  • Support for the students of Serbian Language School, October 24th, 2022

Since the beginning of the school year, we have been intensively developing strategies on how to acquire teaching materials, while burdening parents as little as possible. Today brought us a nice surprise from someone who is not a parent of a student of our School, nor a member of our community but wants to support the work of the Serbian supplementary school in Malta.
We got a printer to print teaching materials!
On behalf of the students and teachers of our School, we are grateful for the timely and generous support of the company QIC Global Services Limited, and the office manager Mr Jurriaan de Vries from Malta, who showed great interest in our needs.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!❤️

  • The beginning of the new school 22/23 year, September 22nd 2022

We are happy to inform you that the Serbian Language School in Malta project, implemented in the 2021/2022 school year, passed successfully, so the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia has given its consent for educational work in the Serbian language in Malta to be part of the education system, as is the case in a large part of our diaspora. The start of the 2022/2023 school year will be in mid-October, about which all parents who have registered their children in school, as well as all those interested, will be informed in a timely manner. The teachers in the new school year whose engagement was approved by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia are Maja Marinković and Jelena Jablanov Maksimović.

As a reminder and expression of gratitude, we note that the “Serbian Language School in Malta” project was implemented in the 2021/2022 school year with the financial support of the Diaspora Office – Directorate for Diaspora and Cooperation with Serbs in the region of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the wholehearted commitment and coordination of the Serbian Educational – cultural center of St. Jelena Anžujska from Malta, with the great blessing and support of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Malta and our parish priest Risto Gorančić, as well as the Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia and Mr Boško Šukić.

We sincerely hope that the next school year will be successful and our students will learn a lot about the Serbian language and Serbian culture, as well as that they will nurture their mother tongue in the best possible way.
